Around the County - St. Joe
Alphonse Ledermann passed away at St. James Hospital in Perham Wednesday, November 2 at the age of sixty-eight years. He had undergone an operation for gallstones Thursday, October 27, and had been progressing favorably until Tuesday evening when about 9:30 he began to sink, and he passed away the next morning at about 3 o'clock. Death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage. He was born in Germany March 17, 1864. In 1886, he immigrated to the country. He came to this community where he worked for Mr. Adam Gerber on the farm now owned by Anton Gerber. He was married to Clara Kahl in 1891. She passed away when Theresa, now Mrs. Peter Esser of Wyocena, Wisconsin was born. In 1892, he was married to Eliza Fuchs, a widow, who passed away January 22, 1927. To this union four children were born, Gertrude, Mrs. Paul Silbernagel; Henry, Joseph and Clara, Mrs. George Guck. All of his children, including his stepson, Alois Fusch of Park Rapids, survive him and were able to attend the funeral. The funeral services were held at St. Joseph's church Saturday morning with Father Wildenborg officiating. Interment was made in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were L. Huss, Balz Schmitz, J. Kremer, John Hoffmann, Anton Gerber and Henry G. Siebels. These man are all neighbors and fellow members of the St. Joseph's society. Mr. Ledermann was also a member of the Holy Name society.

Mrs. Ledermann Passes Away
Well Known Resident of St. Joe Succumbs to Heart Trouble - Was Old Resident of parish.
Mrs. Alphonse Ledermann died Saturday at 9:10 a.m. at the family home in St. Joe after an illness of several months. The cause of death was heart trouble. Mrs. Ledermann began to fall last fall and for six weeks before the Christmas holidays she was a patient at St. James Hospital. She returned home the Wednesday before Christmas. Her condition was serious and there was practically no hope of any termination, yet death came with shocking suddeness. Mrs. Ledermann was born in Ohio and was past 59 years. She came to St. Joe at the age of 17 years, and had been a resident of that vicinity for 42 years. By her first marriage she leaves one son, Alois Fuchs. She is also survived by her husband and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Peter Esser of Two Inlets, Minnesota, and by the following children of her subsequent marriage: Gertrude (Mrs. Paul Silbernagel), Henry and Joe Ledermann and Clara (Mrs. George Guck), all of St. Joe. The funeral was held Tuesday at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's church, Rev. Fr. Wildenborg officiating. The church crowded with friends from the neighboring territory, testified to the esteem in which she was held. Interment was made at the parish cemetery. Attending the funeral from outside points were: John Hemmelgarn, her brother, from Two Inlets; Joseph Ledermann of Superior; Misses Phronie and Louise Hemmelgarn of St. Cloud.

Mrs. Agnes Lubitz Funeral Today At Corliss Church
Funeral services for Mrs. Agnes Lubitz, 72, will be held today (Thursday) 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Corliss with Rev. Richard Guehna officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Mrs. Lubitz died at Memorial Hospital in Perham on Monday. She had been ill about two weeks. The daughter of Simon and Jennie Olthoff, she was born February 15, 1892, at Little Rock, Iowa. On June 27, 1912, she married Frank Lubitz at St. John's Lutheran Church, Corliss and they settled in Corliss Township. Mr. Lubitz preceded in death on June 8, 1963. the observed their 50th wedding anniversary in 1962. Surviving are six children: John and Alfred, both of Perham; Louie, Pablo, Montana; Clarence, Fargo; Edward, Frazee; and Mrs. Albert (Esther) Strehlow, Hastings; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her mother, Mrs. Jennie Olthoff, now 95 years old, of Sibley, Iowa; and five sisters: Mrs. Hank (Clara) Kruger and Mrs. Haje (Tena) Hayenga, both of Sibley, Iowa; Mrs. George (Grace) Bergman, Adrian; Mrs. Cort (Lena) Rippentrop, Lester, Iowa; and Mrs. Harold (Zena) Weets, Detroit Lakes. Also preceding in death were her father, four brothers and a sister. Pallbearers were: Dale Lubitz, Don Lubitz, Albert Huwe, Jr., Hank Olthoff, Lee Weets and Bill DeFries. Schoeneberger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Alfred Lubitz, 67, Perham, died Wednesday at the Elders Home in New York Mills. Services were held Friday, Aug. 21, at 11 A.M. at St John's Lutheran Church, Corliss, with the Rev. Richard Guehna officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Born May 9, 1914, in Corliss Township he was the son of Frank and Agnes Lubitz. On Oct. 22, 1940 he married Bernice Bahls. During the early years of their marriage, they farmed four years Butler township and had resided in Homestead Township since that time. Mrs. Lubitz died Jan. 16, 1975. Survivors include three sons, Donald of Verndale, Gerald of Perham, and Robert of Casselton, ND; two daughters, Marcy Anderson of Perham and Michelle Avelgard of Coon Rapids; six grandchildren; two brothers John of Perham and Edward of New York Mills; and a sister Ester Strehlow of Hastings.

 

Mrs. Ed Lubitz of Frazee Dies
Mrs. Edward (Alma) Lubitz of Frazee, route 1, died early Thursday morning, June 9, at the St. James Hospital. She entered the hospital Saturday with a gall bladder attack and seemed to be getting better. On Wednesday evening she suffered a fatal heart attack and died shortly after midnight. Alma E. Hoffman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs William Hoffman, was born on September 24, 1903 in Becker County. She was married to Edward Lubitz in Corliss in 1937. Surviving are her husband; one son, Dale, 16; a brother Carl Hoffman of Kenosha, Wisconsin.; four sisters, Mrs. Otto (Lena) Foerstner of Perham; Mrs. C. B. (Olga) Weldon of Minneapolis; Mrs. Geo. (Emma) Uldschmidt and Mrs. Victor (Martha) Bahls of Frazee. Funeral services were held June 13 at Schoenberger's Chapel and at St. John's Lutheran Church in Corliss with Rev. Wm. Busse officiating. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Fred, Geo and Maurice Palmer, Walter Peterson, Herman Baumgart and Clarence Flath.

Anna Louise (Meier) Lubitz

Last Rites For Mrs. Lubitz
Funeral rites were conducted for Mrs. Otto Lubitz Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the St John's Lutheran Church in Corliss town at which Rev Julius Nickel officiated. Mrs. Lubitz passed away Tuesday at St James hospital where she had been a patient since last October and had been bedridden for over a year suffering from cancer. She was 45 years of age and is survived by her husband and 6 children who are Henry and Erwin and Mrs. Fred Raatz of Evergreen, Reuben of Corliss and Wilbert and Elenore living at home. The pallbearers were six nephews, Herman and Emil Wandrei, Lawrence, Luvern, Edward and Herbert Lubitz.

AUGUST LUBITZ DIES SUDDENLY
Well Known Corliss Town Farmer Sick Only A Few Hours
Came Here Late 80's -- Buried Tuesday
August Lubitz, a resident of Corliss Township for many years and well known to dwellers in this vicinity, died Saturday at about 11:55 a.m., at his home. He was taken suddenly with severe pains in the stomach and collapsed. His son Herman placed him on a bed and within a few minutes he had expired. A physician ascribed his death to a heart stroke. Mr. Lubitz was born in Germany, April 26, 1856. He had passed his 80th birthday by 20 days. He came to America 50 years ago. His first three years were spent at Young America after which he moved to Corliss, where he made his residence the rest of his life. Mrs. Lubitz died 20 years ago. Surviving Mr. Lubitz are his sons: Frank, Otto and Herman of Corliss and William of Perham and his daughters Emily (Mrs. F. A. Heuer, Norwood, Minnesota), Anna, (Mrs. Oscar Nelson) of Thief River Falls, Hazel (Mrs. William Wanderi, Corliss) and Gusta (Mrs. Holte of Fargo). Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. John's church in Corliss with Rev. Nickel officiating. Interment was made in the parish cemetery. A large number of relatives and friends attended the obsequies.

Bernice Lubitz Services Monday
Mrs Alfred (Bernice) Lubitz 53, of rural Perham, died Thursday after being hospitalized since New Year's Day at the Wadena Tri-County Hospital. Services are scheduled for 2 P.M. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Corliss Township, with the Rev. Richard Guehna officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She was born in Pine Lake Township March 4, 1921, a daughter of William and Louise Bahls. She graduated from Perham High School in 1939. She married Alfred Lubitz Oct. 22, 1940, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Corliss Township. The couple farmed in Butler township until moving to their present farm in Homestead Township in 1943. Mrs. Lubitz is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Marilyce) Anderson, Perham; Mrs Clifford (Michelle) Avelgard, Royalton; three sons, Donald, Verndale; Gerald and Robert both at home; five grandchildren; and a brother, Art Bahls, Minneapolis. Karvonen Funeral Home, New York Mills, is in charge of the arrangements.

Services Held For Mrs. Herman Lubitz
Mrs. Herman (Bertha) Lubitz, 78, Corliss township was dead on arrival at the Perham Memorial Hospital last Wednesday. The funeral was held on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Corliss township. The Rev. Richard Guehna officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Lubitz was born on January 11, 1897, in Corliss Township, a daughter of Charles and Bertha Brasel. She was a life-long resident of Corliss Township and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. On Dec 9, 1915 she married Herman Lubitz in Corliss Township. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Art (Evelyn) Huwe, Perham and Mrs. Vernon (Delores) Fiedler, Dent; three sons, Herbert, Elmer and Vernon all of Perham; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Oswald (Hulda) Rothiger, and Mrs. Ray (Elsie) Welter, both of New York Mills; four brothers, Henry, Herbert and Fred Brasel, all of New York Mills and Frank Brasel, Blanchard, North Dakota. Pallbearers were Kevin Lubitz, David Lubitz, Kerry Lubitz, Laren Lubitz, Steven Huwe and Dennis Huwe.

Edward Lubitz
Funeral services for Edward Adolph Herman Lubitz, age 85, of New York Mills, Minn., will be held Friday, January 11, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, New York Mills, Minn., with the Reverend Jon T. Haakana officiating. Burial will follow in St. John?s Lutheran Cemetery in Corliss Township, rural Perham, Minn. Visitation at Schoenberger Funeral Home, Perham, Minn., will be Thursday, January 10, 2002 from 4-8 p.m. as well as one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Ed was born April 3, 1916 in Corliss Township, rural Perham, Minn. to Frank and Agnes Ohltoff. He attended country school in Corliss Township. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on June 6, 1932. On October 20, 1937, Ed married Alma Hoffman. Alma died on June 9, 1955. Ed farmed in Evergreen Township, rural Fraxee, Minn. through 1960. He then worked for Tesch Lumber in Perham, Minn. from 1960 to 1967, then worked for the New York Mills Elevator from 1967 to 1982. Ed was united in marriage on April 13, 1967 to Verna Phillips. Verna died May 6, 1998. Ed retired in New York Mills, Minn. He enjoyed knitting, making wool gloves and gardening. Surviving Ed is his son, Dale (Roslyn) Lubitz of Frazee, Minn.; one sister, Esther Strehlow of Hastings, Minn.; step-sons Roger Phillips of Rothsay, Minn. and Raymond Phillips of Minneapolis, Minn.; step-daughters Gladys (Argil) Lueders of Otter Tail, Minn. and Margaret (Bruce) Week of Wenatchee, Wash.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. Preceding Ed in death are brothers: Alfred, Clarence, John and Louis, and one great-grandson, Nicholas. Schoenberger Funeral Home, Perham, Minn. is in charge of the arrangements.

Frank Lubitz, 82; Dies in Perham; Funeral Tuesday
Frank Lubitz, 82, a life-long resident of Corliss Township passed away suddenly at his home in Perham on Saturday June 8. He was born in Germany December 31, 1880 and came to America as a small boy. Mr. Lubitz was united in marriage to Miss Ottilie Jabs on February 5, 1907. She preceded him in death in 1911. In 1912 he was married to Agnes Olthoff. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from St. John's Lutheran church in Corliss with the Rev. Richard Guehna officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Dale, Donald, Laverne Henry and Herbert Lubitz, and Herman Wanderi. Mr. Lubitz is survived by his widow, Agnes, and six children. they are John of Perham, Louis of Montana, Clarence of Fargo, Alfred of Perham, Edward of Frazee and Mrs. Albert (Esther) Strehlow of Hastings. Also surviving are three brothers and four sisters: Otto, Bill and Herman of Perham; Mrs. Oscar (Annie) Nelson of Thief River Falls, Mrs. William (Hattie) Wanderi of Perham, Mrs. Augusta Holte of Fargo and Mrs. Ferdinand (Millie) Heuer.

Henry Lubitz
Henry "Hank" Lubitz, age 83, of Perham, Minnesota died Friday, June 30 at Merit Care Hospital, Fargo, ND. Funeral services were held July 3 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Perham, with Henry Bucholz officiating. Burial was held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery. Henry Lubitz was born October 15, 1911 in Corliss Township, near Perham to Otto and Anna Meier Lubitz. He was united in marriage to Frieda Brasel on July 2, 1934 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Corliss Township. She died November 3, 1976. Henry later married Elsie Grimm on June 24, 1977 at Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Paul, Minnesota. Hank farmed in Evergreen Township from 1933 to 1960. From 1960 until 1973, Hank was a police officer and chief for Perham Police Department. He was also a Otter Tail County Sheriff Deputy. Survivors: wife, Elsie; two daughters: Mrs Richard (Joyce) Steidl of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; Mrs Marvin (Delaine) Bartel of Frazee, Minnesota; two step-daughters: Mary Kupfer of Staples, Minnesota and Judy Seiler of Ventora, CA; one sister, Mrs. Walter (Elenor) Stewart of Menahga, Minnesota; three brothers: Wilbert Lubitz of New York Mills, Minnesota; Ruben Lubitz also of New York Mills; and Ervin Lubitz of Mecosta, Michigan; 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by first wife, Frieda; son, Darold "Buddy" Lubitz; one son and daughter at birth; one sister, Laura Chamness. Schoenberger Funeral Home, Perham, Minnesota was in charge of arrangements.

Herman A. Lubitz Funeral Held Monday
Herman A. Lubitz, 85, Corliss Township, died Thursday, August 11, at the Perham Memorial Hospital. The funeral was held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Corliss, the Rev. Richard Guehna officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Lubitz was born in Corliss Township on February 16, 1892, the son of August and Fredricka Lubitz. He was a lifelong resident of the Corliss area where he farmed with his family. He married Bertha Brasel on December 9, 1915. His wife died January 7, 1976. Surviving are two daughters and three sons. They are: Mrs. Buster (Delores) Fiedler, Dent; Mrs. Art (Evelyn) Huwe, Herbert, Elmer, and Vernon, all of Corliss Township; two sisters and one brother, Augusta Holte, Fargo; Mrs. William (Hazel) Wanderi and William, both of Perham; 14 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Kevin, David, Laren and kerry Lubitz and Dennis and Steven Huwe.

Services Held Monday For Olga Lubitz, 80
Olga Lubitz, 80, Perham, died Tuesday at the Perham Memorial Hospital. the funeral was held Monday at 2 p.m. at the St. Paul's Lutheran church, Perham, with the Rev. H. J. Malotky officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Mrs. Lubitz was born December 19, 1895, in Germany, the daughter of Martin and Anna Breitenfeldt. She married William Lubitz on December 16, 1915. The couple were long-life residents of Perham, and were married 61 years. She is survived by her husband; two sons and three daughters, Lawrence, Crookston; LaVern, Frazee; Mrs. John (Grace) Booth, Oklahoma; Mrs. Ray (Velma) Dillard and Mrs. Charles (Romayne) Osborne, both of Maryland; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Albert and Edwin Breitenfeldt, both of Perham; five sisters, Mrs. Freemont (Bertha) Van de Vander, Texas; Leona Bunkowski, California; Mrs. Max (Elsie) Kunkel, Washington; Mrs. Art (Emma) Nieman, Frazee and Mrs. Lawrence (Esther) Meyer, Detroit Lakes. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters, Millie Hoehne, Edna Schmidt and Martha Ewan; and 2 brothers, Herbert and Henry. Pallbearers were Vernon Nieman, Elmer, Norman and Raymond Breitenfeldt, Melvin Meyer and Herb Lubitz.

Otto Lubitz Rites Held February 8
Funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran church in Corliss for Otto Lubitz on February 8 at 2 p.m. Otto August Lubitz was born to August and Fredrica (Maves) Lubitz on December 9, 1884. He passed away on February 4 at the age of 80 years. coming to the United States at the age of 2 months, he first lived in Carver county and moved to Corliss township at the age of two. He lived in Corliss until he retired 10 years ago and moved to Perham. He was baptized in the Christian faith in Germany. On July 9, 1899 he was confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church. On November 9, 1910 he was married to Anna Meier. She preceded him in death on May 21, 1940. He is survived by six children: Henry of Perham, Mrs Laura Raatz of Oakland, California, Ruben of Perham, Ervin of Sunfield, Michigan, Wilbert of Perham, and Eleanor (Mrs Walter Steward) of Menahga; two brothers, Herman and William of Perham; four sisters, Mrs. Ferdinand Heuer of Lester Prairie, Mrs Annie Nelson of Thief River Falls, Mrs. Hazel Wanderi of Perham, and Mrs. Augusta Holte of Fargo; two brothers, Frank and Albert preceded him in death. there are 26 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren surviving. Pallbearers were Lawrence Lubitz, Herbert Lubitz, Edward Lubitz, Alfred Lubitz, Emil Wanderi and Herman Wanderi.

 

VERNA LUBITZ 1921 - 1998
Verna Lubitz, 76, of New York Mills, Minnesota died Wednesday, May 6, 1998 at the Perham Memorial Home. She was born June 8, 1921 in Newton Township and is the daughter of the late Charles and Maria (Missikankas) Kumpula. Verna was baptized on June 19, 1921 at home in Newton Township, Otter Tail County and confirmed on June 30, 1935 at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills. On June 2, 1940 she was united in marriage to Jesse C. Phillips. They farmed for a number of years and then moved into New York Mills. To this union there were four children. After Jesse died in 1963, Verna worked two years for the Ringer Company in Staples and eighteen years for the Homecrest Industries in Wadena. In 1967 Verna married Edward A. H. Lubitz. Preceding Verna in death are her parents; husband, Jesse Phillips; ten brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband, Edward Lubitz, two daughters: Gladys (Argil) Lueders of Otter Tail, Minnesota; Margaret (Bruce) Week of Wenatchee, Washington; two sons: Roger (Tresa) Phillips of Eagan, Minnesota; Raymond Phillips of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; one stepson: Dale (Roslyn) Lubitz of Frazee, Minnesota; eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. May God comfort those who mourn.

William Heinrich Lubitz, 93 of Perham died Wednesday, May 24 at the Perham Memorial Home. Services were held Saturday, May 27 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Perham, with the Rev. Harvey Kietzman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Lubitz was born August 27, 1895, at Corliss Township, the son of August and Fredricka (Maves) Lubitz. He and Olga Breitenfeldt were married December 16, 1915, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Corliss Township. She died December 16, 1976. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. John (Grace) Booth of Sawyer, Oklahoma; Mrs. Ray (Velma) Dillard and Romayne Osborne, both of Beltsville, Maryland; two sons, Lawrence of Bemidji and LaVerne of Frazee; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren. Schoenberger Funeral Home, Perham was in charge of arrangements.
