Hassler
Hassler - At Santa Monica, California, February 1st, of Cancer of the Stomach, Blasie A.
Hassler, of Perham, in his 37th year. Mr., Hassler was born in Germany, and removed to this country at the age of eight years, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.
Hassler. He was married in 1883 to Miss Maggie Seifert, of St. Joe, and six children have bless their union, four of whom are still living, Frank age 14, Johnnie age 12, Minnie aged 10 and Richard aged 5. He engaged in the hardware business about 12 years ago in Perham, and since that time has been considered one of our substantial business men. For the past eight years he has been a sufferer from stomach trouble, failing rapidly for the past two years. At the advice of his physicians he went to California in the early fall, accompanied by his wife and youngest child. At his request he was joined later by his sister Miss Aggie
Hassler. The news of the death was received in Perham Saturday, and did not create much surprise, as it was known he was failing rapidly. The remains will reach here this morning, and the funeral will be held from St. Henry's church at 10 o'clock. The sympathy of the entire community go out to the bereaved widow and children and to the aged parents in their bereavement. |

Mrs. M. Hassler, Pioneer Resident, Called by Death
Mrs. Margaret Hassler, 90, a resident of this community the past 70 years, passed away at St. James Hospital, March 23, at 11:20 p.m. where she had spent the past three and a half years of her life. Mrs. Hassler was born in St. Joseph township, Stearns County, February 14, 1860 and was married to Blazius Hassler in 1880 who preceded her in death in 1895. Surviving her is a daughter, Mrs. Minnie Seifert of Los Angeles, California, and a son, Dick of Frazee. four sons preceded her in death. One brother, John Seifert, St. Joe and two sisters, Mrs. Barbara Silbernagel and Mrs. Kate Kraemer of Dent, also ten grandchildren. Mrs. Hassler was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, St. Mary's Aid and the Christian Mothers of St. Henry's parish. Funeral services were held Monday at 9 o'clock from St. Henry's Catholic church. Rev. N. Donnay officiated. Pallbearers were Len Doll, Art and Norbert Hemmelgarn, Len, Aloysius and Norbert Hassler. Those who attended the funeral from out of town were: George, Clair and Frances Hassler and Mrs. Lee Florey and children of Staples, Mrs. T. Marshall of Lake Park and Mrs. Marvin Skillingstad and son Bob and Mrs. Leo Garbowski of St. Cloud.

Anna (Wagner) Hemmelgarn
Passed Away - Mrs. J. B. Hemmelgarn Died at Hospital Tuesday Afternoon -- In Poor Health Many Years.
The community was saddened Tuesday by the death of Mrs. J. B. Hemmelgarn, which took place at the hospital that afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. Mrs. Hemmelgarn had been in bad health for a number of years suffering from heart trouble and rheumatism. this was followed in recent months by complications that portended the end. She was brought to the hospital and everything possible was done for her but death could not be averted. Mrs. Hemmelgarn was a woman highly esteemed by all who knew her and the many expressions of sorrow at her demise were eloquent testimonials of this regard. She was born in Germany, the daughter of Anton Wagner and came to this country at an early age, the family settling in Ohio. Her husband was among the early settlers of Pine Lake township where they made their home for
many years. The time of the funeral had not been set at the time of this writing.

Anna (Wagner) Hemmelgarn
Final Rites Held Friday - Obsequies of Mrs. Hemmelgarn at St. Henry's Church Attended by Large Number of Friends.
A large number of friends from Perham and vicinity attended the final rites for the late Mrs. Joseph B. Hemmelgarn at St. Henry's church Friday morning. Rev. Fr. Hauptsang the requiem high mass and the spacious auditorium of St. Henry's was well filled with friends who came to pay the last tribute of love and respect. A large number accompanied the body to the parish cemetery where it was laid in its final resting place. The pall bearers were all old friends of the family: Fred L. Weber, Ferd. Boedigheimer, Frank Rosenthal, Arthur Hermann, Jos. Dalker, Jr. and Wm. Boedigheimer. Surviving Mrs. Hemmelgarn are her husband and three children, two daughters and one son. the children are, Martin Hemmelgarn and Clara Hemmelgarn, who live at home and Rose, who returned last Monday from California to be with her mother in her last illness.

Amelia Heuer
Funeral services for Amelia Heuer wife of the late Ferdinand A. Heuer were held last Friday, May 7 from the Wise Memorial Chapel and the United Church of Christ of Lester Prairie with Rev. Grunwald officiating. Burial was in Ferguson cemetery.
Amelia Augusta Fredericka, daughter of August Lubitz and his wife Fredericka born Mews was born on September 20, 1888, Town of Corliss, Otter Tail County, Minnesota. On the 8th of October 1888 she was baptized in the Ev. Lutheran St. John's Church at Corliss by Rev. Kretzschmar. On January 5, 1902 she renewed her faith and was confirmed by Rev. Aug.
Siewing. On the 14th of January 1909 she was united in marriage to Ferdinand Heuer. They were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding in 1959.
Eight children were born to this union, namely, Anna, Mrs. Gerhard Koerschen, Sophia, Mrs. Fred Schrupp of Mayer, Arthur of Young America, Melvin of Waconia, Lenoard at Hamburg and Ferdinand, Jr., of Norwood on the home farm and Edna who died in infancy.
In 1954 they left the home farm and moved to Lester Prairie where they made their home. She was a good church worker and enjoyed her neighbors and friends there. In October of 1969 she no longer could stay by herself so she made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, the Fred Schrupps for 6 months and the next five months with her son and family, Leonard Heuer at Hamburg.
On September 20, 1970 she became ill and was taken to Waconia Hospital, when her legs became paralyzed and could no longer stay with the children. She was taken to the Norwood Rest Home on October 3 where she resided till Monday April 26 when she developed pneumonia and was taken by ambulance (remainder of sencence missing).
She leaves to mourn her children, Sophia and her husband Fred, Arthur and his wife Luella, Melvin and his wife Helen, Albert and his wife Evelyn, Leonard and his wife Myra, Ferdinand and wife, Carol. 18 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters, Mrs Hedwig Wandrie, Perham, Mrs. Annie Nelson, Thief River Falls, and Augusta Holte of Fargo, North Dakota. 2 brothers Herman and William of Perham.
Those proceeding her in death were her parents, her husband, Ferdinand in October 1960, her daughter Anna in April 1939 and three brothers, namely, Frank, Otto and Albert Lubitz all of Perham.
Pallbearers wee the grandchildren, Dennis Schrupp, Larry Heuer, Gary Heuer, Allen Heuer, Mark Heuer and Donald Heuer.

Pelican Valley Health Center. Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m.,

Burial in Ringsaker Cemetery.
She was born in Oscar Township, July 28, 1890, a daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Lars Haga. She was married in Fergus Falls, March 23, 1910, and
the couple lived at Columbus, N.D., until 1920, then farmed in the
Pelican Rapids-Rothsay area until retiring to live in Pelican Rapids
about 1950. She leaves three sons, Leonard and Ernest of Pelican
Rapids and LeRoy of Brooklyn Center; five daughters, Mrs. Herbert
(Myrtle) Drechsel of Fergus Falls, Mrs. Eunice Kinnen of Detroit
Lakes, Mrs. Berthel (Viola) Christianson of Pelican Rapids, Mrs.
Victor (Ethel) Goedert of Verndale, Mrs. Orris (Alice) Anderson of
Barnesville; 33 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren.

Joseph N. Hovland Rites set Thursday
PELICAN RAPIDS - Joseph N. Hovland, 86, died May 22 at Pelican Valley
Health Center. Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m., from Trinity
Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lowell Smestad officiating. Burial in
Ringsaker Cemetery. He was born April 22, 1885, in Trondhjem Township,
a son of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Hovland. He was raised in the Rothsay area
and in 1909 homesteaded near Columbus, N.D. He married Alma Haga
in Fergus Falls, March 23, 1910, and farmed near Columbus until 1920,
when he moved back to the Pelican Rapids - Rothsay area, farming until
moving into Pelican Rapids in 1950. Mr. Hovland had been a resident of
the Good Samaritan Home the past 18 months. He leaves his wife, at
Pelican Valley Nursing Home; five daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Myrtle)
Drechsel of Fergus Falls, Mrs. Eunice Kinnen of Detroit Lakes, Mrs.
Berthel (Viola) Christianson of Pelican Rapids, Mrs. Victor (Ethel)
Goedert of Verndale and Mrs. Orris (Alice) Anderson of Barnesville;
three sons, Leroy of Brooklyn Center, Leonard and Ernest of Pelican
Rapids; 33 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. He also leaves

Anne Huwe
Funeral services were held for Anne Huwe on Saturday, March 26, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills, Minnesota with Pastor Jon T. Haakana officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Cindy Becker. Special music was also provided by Gary Bach. The pallbearers were Darin Huwe, Mike Huwe, Scott Huwe, Dan Huwe, Greg Huwe and Rob Lindberry. The honorary pallbearers were Lisa Harmon, Julie Cochran, Jeanne Kinnunen, Jennifer Huwe, Kiki Erickson, Jodi Endersbe and Amy McCollett. Anne was laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, New York Mills,
Minnesota. Anne Mary Huwe was born on April 13, 1917 at home on the family farm in Butler Township, rural New York Mills, Minnesota. Her parents were the late Marinus and Katherine (Van Dorst) DeBruyn. On Sept. 21, 1942 Anne was united in marriage with Raymond Albert Huwe at St.
John's Lutheran Church in Corliss Township. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Anne and Raymond farmed in Butler Township and Homestead Township until semi-retiring in 1981. On Sept. 14, 1995 Raymond passed away. Since June of 2002 Anne has resided in the Kaleva Apartments in New York Mills. Anne enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, crocheting, and needlework. Anne was very active in Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. On March 22, 2005 Anne passed away at the Perham Memorial Hospital in Perham, Minn. at 87 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Preceding Anne in death were her parents, Marinus and Katherine DeBruyn; husband, Raymond Huwe; five sisters: Mary Kellem, Katherine Lanigan, Gertrude Guild, Julia Sweere and Lorraine Cichy; four brothers: John DeBruyn, George DeBruyn, Raymond DeBruyn and Ernest
DeBruyn. Anne is survived by four sons: Dennis (Kathryn) Huwe of Bagley; Daryll (Gloria) Huwe of Sebeka; Deland (JoAnn) Huwe; Dean (Janice) Huwe of New York Mills; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Leona Matz of Perham; Helen Anhorn of Perham; four brothers-in-law: Arnold (Eleanor) Huwe of Menahga; Eldor (Margaret) Huwe of Menahga; Norman (Jeanette) Huwe of Perham; Albert Jr. (Violet) Huwe of New York Mills; many other relatives and a host of friends.

Arthur H. Huwe
Funeral services for Arthur H. Huwe, age 85, of Perham, were held Saturday, February 8, 2003, at St.
John's Lutheran Church in Corliss Township, rural Perham. Reverend Del Meyer officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Arthur Herman Huwe was born on February 14, 1917, in Corliss Township, Perham, the son of Otto Huwe and Anna (Butzke) Huwe. On April 1, 1917, he was baptized into the hope of
Christ's resurrection. On April 19, 1936, he publicly professed that same faith when he was confirmed at St.
John's Lutheran Church, Corliss Township, rural Perham, where he remained a member for the rest of his life. On May 19, 1943, he was united in marriage with Evelyn Lubitz. Their marriage was blessed with three children.
After attending country school through the sixth grade, Art began farming with his father on the family farm and later with his brother, Herb. Art served on the Corliss Town Board for fifteen years, as an elder at St.
John's Lutheran Church for six years and was a member of various other boards. Following his retirement in 1981, Art and Evelyn continued living on the farm until they moved into Perham in 1997. In July of 2000, Art entered the Perham Memorial Home where he died on February 4, 2003 at the age of 85.
Surviving Art is his loving wife, Evelyn of Perham; one daughter, Doreen (Warren) Thompson of New York Mills, Minn.; two sons, Dennis (Kathie) Huwe of Menahga, Minn. and Steven (Rhonda) Huwe, of Dent, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Patricia Huwe, Kristy Thompson, Diahnn Huwe, Eileen (Aaron) Kangas, Troy Huwe, Pam Thompson, and Brent (Lori) Thompson; eight great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Cierra and Erica Bertram, Allyson, Kangas, Brenna Thompson, Natalie, Joseph and Katie; two sisters, Lora and Elva Brasel and numerous relatives and friends. Art was preceded in death by his brother, Herbert and sister, Pauline Wendt.

Connie Joy Huwe
Funeral services will be held for Connie Joy Huwe, age 55, of Bloomington on Thursday, December 11, at 1 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Corliss Township, rural Perham. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. with a time of sharing and prayers at 7 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Corliss Township, rural Perham. Connie passed away surrounded by her loving family on December 7, 2008 at the Frazee Care Center in Frazee. Connie is survived by her son, Gannon; parents, Eldor and Margaret Huwe of Wolf Lake; siblings,, Linda Huwe of Minneapolis; Laurie (John) Hendrickx of New York Mills; Tim (Brenda) Huwe of Park Rapids; Jane (Robert) VonRuden of Frazee; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Evelyn Hulda (Lubitz) Huwe was born April 28, 1917, in Corliss Township, Perham,
Minnesota, the daughter of Herman and Bertha (Brasel) Lubitz. On May 27, 1917, she was baptized into the hope of
Christ's resurrection. On June 5, 1932, she publicly professed that same faith when she was confirmed at St.
John's Lutheran Church, Corliss Township, Perham, where she remained a member for the rest of her life. On May 19, 1943, she was united in marriage with Arthur Herman Huwe. Their marriage was blessed with three children, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
After attending country school through the eighth grade, Evelyn began doing housekeeping and child care for families in the surrounding area. Evelyn was a Sunday School teacher, was in Homemakers, belonged to the LWML, did quilting with the church, and was also in a walking group. She loved her flowers, gardening, grandchildren, baking, and teaching her grandchildren different crafts. Evelyn and Art continued living on the farm until they moved into Perham in 1997. On February 7, 2002, Evelyn entered the Perham Memorial Home where she died on April 1, 2009, at the age of 91. Her funeral services were held April 4 at St.
John's Lutheran Church-Corliss, rural Perham, with Pastor Del Meyer officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Evelyn is survived by her three children, a daughter, Doreen (Warren) Thompson, New York Mills, MN, and two sons, Dennis (Kathie) Huwe, Menahga, MN and Steven (Rhonda) Huwe, Dent, MN; eight grandchildren, Patricia (Jeremy) Sanders, Diahnn Huwe, Kristy Thompson, Eileen (Aaron) Kangas, Troy (Christine) Huwe, Pam Thompson, Brent Thompson, and Tabitha Huwe; nine great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Cierra, and Erica Bertram, Allyson, Brooke, and Caaden Kangas, Brenna and Katie Thompson, and Reese Madonna Huwe; one brother, Herb (Laura) Lubitz; a brother-in-law, Vernon
(Buster) Fielder; and three sisters-in-law, Cora Brasel, Bernice Lubitz, and Darlene Lubitz.
Preceding Evelyn in death are her parents; husband, Arthur; big brothers, Elmer and Vernon; brother, Art (in infancy); and one sister, Delores Fiedler.

Herbert Huwe
Funeral services for Herbert F. Huwe, age 82, of Perham, Minn., were Saturday, August 25, 2001 at St.
John's Lutheran Church, Corliss Township, rural Perham, Minnesota. The Reverend Del Meyer officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Herb died in the early morning hours of August 21, 2001 at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home in Perham.
Herbert Otto Ferdinand Huwe was born on April 20, 1919, in Corliss Township, Perham,
Minnesota, the son of Otto Huwe and Anna (Butzke) Huwe. On May 18, 1919, he was baptized in to the hope of
Christ's resurrection and on April 19, 1936, he publicly professed that same faith when he was confirmed at St.
John's Lutheran Church, Corliss Township, rural Perham, Minn., where he was a member for his entire life. Herb and his four siblings have all stayed in the Perham area.
Herb farmed with his father before entering the armed forces of our country. Serving in the U.S. Army, Herb saw action during WWII in the Panama Canal and later in both the European and African theater. He received numerous military honors for his service. After returning home, Herb farmed with his brother, Art, until 1981, when they both retired from farming, and also, married Malinda (Rosen) Brasel. Herb and Malinda lived in Corliss Township until they moved into Perham shortly before his death.
Herb will be remembered for his quiet nature, as well as his love of deer hunting, fishing, especially spearing, and playing cards.
Surviving Herb is his wife, Malinda; two step-daughters, Lavaun (Pat) Griffin of Rockford, Ill. and Ardes (Kim) Yearout of Albuquerque, N.M.; one brother, Art (Evelyn) Huwe of Perham,
Minnesota; two sisters, Cora Brasel and Elva Brasel, both of Perham,
Minnesota; four step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding Herb in death are his parents, and one sister, Pauline Wendt, who died just two months ago. Herb will also be remembered by many other relatives and friends who mourn his death.
