This map shows the generalized distribution of the 3 major ethnic groups of Otter Tail County based on the 1905 census. In that year, Norwegians comprised 39% of the foreign born population and this is shown by red shading over the southern and northwestern parts of the county. Germans accounted for 20% which was concentrated in the north central townships and a few other areas which are shaded in green. Swedes (20%) are show in blue and were more widely distributed. They were only concentrated in a few places such as Amor and Eastern townships. Purple areas show a mixed Norwegian and Swedish population. The grey areas in the northeast show the Finnish population (8%) concentrated in that area. The colors were made up by shading red, green, and blue according to the percentage of that ethnic group in a particular township. Map drawn by John C. Nelson, 1997.
